In my practice as a therapist, I enjoy working with individuals who engage in alternative lifestyles such as BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism, and Masochism), ethical non-monogamy (ENM), and sex work.
These communities often face stigma, misunderstanding, and discrimination, and my aim is to provide a safe, affirming, and nonjudgmental space. I create an environment where clients can explore their experiences, identities, and relationships without fear of shame or condemnation.
For practitioners of BDSM, I approach therapy with a sex-positive and kink-affirmative perspective. I understand that BDSM encompasses a wide range of consensual activities and dynamics, each with its own complexities and nuances. My role as a therapist is to help individuals navigate these dynamics in a healthy and fulfilling manner. Moreover, we also address any psychological or relational challenges that may arise within the context of BDSM play or relationships. This may involve exploring issues of consent, communication, boundaries, power dynamics, and emotional well-being.
In working with individuals involved in ethical non-monogamy, I provide support and guidance as they navigate the complexities of open relationships, polyamory, and other forms of consensual non-monogamy.
For instance, this may include exploring communication skills, negotiating boundaries, managing jealousy, or addressing issues related to societal norms and expectations. My approach is collaborative, empowering clients to define and cultivate relationships that align with their values and goals, while also promoting honesty, trust, and mutual respect among all partners.
For clients who are sex workers, I prioritize compassion, respect, and empowerment. I recognize the diverse experiences and circumstances within the sex work community, and I aim to provide a judgment-free space where individuals can explore their needs, boundaries, and aspirations. Whether addressing issues of safety, self-care, stigma, or navigating the intersections of work and personal life, my goal is to support sex workers in advocating for their rights, well-being, and agency, while also addressing any mental health concerns that may arise from their profession.
